purple toenails

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

it has been just over a week since we found out. still doesn't seem real. we definitely want it to be real, but i think we are still a bit guarded. i went to my 'fertility' appointment on monday and was greeted by the cranky intake nurse who was annoyed that i didn't cancel my appointment. i was directed to the ob/gyn desk so that i could fill out all of the prenatal registry paperwork. they tested me there (which was a production in itself - have you ever had to pee in a cup then pour some in a tube before you turn it into the lab? well, just be careful you don't accidentally trigger the motion sensored faucet and end up adding a bunch of water to your sample tube. i'm glad there aren't any hidden cameras in the bathroom). well, my purple toenails are official! that's my joke with chris about there being a no doubt sign that you are pregnant without all this guessing . . . why can't your toenails just turn purple once you conceive? doesn't that sounds much simpler?
i do have an appt with christine (our midwife from the summer), but it's not until december 18th. seems so far away. we'll be 11 weeks then. better keep praying.
several of my sweet friends have been calling in to check on my appt. it's hard not to tell them the real story. sorry, friends - i don't mean keep this fabulous news from you, we're just trying to wait this time.
laura & baby clara are going to be here in 2 weeks. that's going to be a huge challenge.
starting to feel a bit icky with food and all these bubbles that build up in the evening. that's a good sign though. i'll take it. bring it on, baby!
i updated my profile on thebump.com yesterday. according to their calculator, we are due on july 8th, 2010! let's just say sometime in july. i also checked out their chinese calendar gender calculator. it's based on the month of conception and how old you were that month. it says we're going to have a boy. hmm . . it hasn't sunk in yet how much i'm going to miss chris once baby arrives. we'll just have to address that later. i'm sure there will be several posts about it.
dear baby - i have an acupuncture appointment in the morning. i hope it helps you to be nourished and protected. in 4 1/2 weeks we'll hopefully be meeting you for the first time on the ultrasound screen. keep up the strong mitosis! we love you.
