in early july, before emilymae was born, i pinned this picture on pinterest onto my ‘baby bug’ board.  i just thought it was cute and figured it might come in handy for some get-back-in-shape motivation later on.  well, a day or two after i pinned it someone made a comment that rubbed me the wrong way.  they posted ‘unrealistic’ or ‘not likely’ . . . something along those lines.  it sort of made me grr.

maybe they didn’t intend for it to have a mean or negative tone, but that’s how i read it.  since i didn’t recognize the name right away, i deleted the comment and started daydreaming about my wee one on the way and what we might look like together as she grew beautiful & strong
and i hopefully did some shrinking.

this little momma thought it seemed possible and likely.

so, here is the picture from pinterest . . .
(it’s from an article about body changes you might experience postpartum)

. . . and here is me and my little emilymae.
(taken 29 weeks and 2 days after she arrived)

yep, i knew it.  totally possible!

last month my parents came back out for a visit.  it was so great to see them and we all had a blast.  i loved getting to watch them with anabelle and emilymae, loved that my littles were getting to soak up so much goodness . . . & me too!

the weather was gorgeous and even a little toasty at times.

one thing on anabelle’s list was to go ride the carousel and the train so we were off to balboa park.  thankfully we recovered from the major ‘mommy fail’ and had a really great day.  reminder – the carousel and the train are both closed on weekdays.  aahh!

after realizing that (sigh) i tried to regroup and decided to head to the fish pond.  of course, as we were walking over there someone overheard me and said ‘you know they’ve emptied it out for repairs, right?’  seriously?  thank goodness one side was finished and had some big fish in it to watch.

figured we’d top off the day with some ice cream – why not?!  she actually had a couple licks this time but that was it.  then we were ready for some quiet time at home.  one of anabelle’s new favorites is to brush your hair and she likes to give everyone a turn, even grandpa.

anabelle had been talking about the wild animal park for months.  the first thing she would say every time she heard grandma & grandpa on he phone was “i want go wild animal park!”  she knew that once grandma & grandpa got here we were going to get to go so this was her big day!

(and thanks gran for the great pass.  we love it!)

no matter what, it’s always pretty amazing seeing the animals there and so close.  it was quite a site watching this huge lion sleeping on top of the jeep.

the gorillas were our last stop and possibly our favorite.  we were watching what we assumed were a father and a grandfather for a few minutes and then up came a momma and baby (his name was monroe).  they were amazing!

what a day!  anabelle and my dad enjoyed the final two rides of the night on the carousel and we were definitely one of the last vehicles in the parking lot.

it was such a fabulous visit.  can’t wait to see them again soon, xo.
i am flying home with both girls at the end of the month.  that adventure could quite possibly be it’s very own blog post.

big girl

Sunday, February 3, 2013

this little cutie just keeps growing, learning, and being the coolest, smartest, funniest 2 1/2 year old i’ve even known.  we’ve been having a great time together . . . and even apart when she’s having another ‘do it by myself’ moment.  she has so much to say and she just makes my heart sing!

i love you, jellybean.  xo

a few weeks ago I got to photograph another friend’s homecoming at miramar.
cheers to the knipe family & welcome home, Jimmy!
(& thanks for sharing your special day)

I made sure to snap a few pictures of my own crew while we waited.
(was a great day to break in our new tees – thank you again etsy)

chris’ brother also flew in!

savoring the sweet life photography-91

scrolling through some older pictures I came across these two from may 2010 when jimmy & chris deployed together to afghanistan with the red devils.  they left in the same jet.  that’s evelyn on the left and me next to her.

(I’m pretty sure these pics are from janice bush)
